The product package includes all components you need for autonomous power generation and usage. It consists of 8 individual photovoltaic modules (1), which together generate up to 3,520 watts of solar power. The generated power charges the battery storage via the hybrid inverter (2), which takes on the function of a charge controller. The 3.5kWh LiFePo4 battery storage (3) is modular and can be expanded as desired to further increase the degree of autonomy. Additionally, the hybrid inverter converts the generated direct current into household-standard 230V alternating current. It has a power of 3 kW, which is more than sufficient for most applications. To give you a clearer idea and assistance regarding the size and product features, we will explain the individual components below. 

Subsequently, we will calculate how much electricity you can use with this system and when this investment will have paid off for you.

 

Trina Solar 435 Watt Panel

The 8 solar modules each have an individual output of 440 Wp with an area requirement of approximately 2.0m² each. In total, about 16-20 m² of roof space is required. 

Overall, this achieves a power output of up to 3520 W. To give you a concrete idea of how much electricity this generates at what time, we have compiled some data for you below.


 


Comparison of monthly specific yields in Germany for the years 2012 to 2020. The data is based on information from the University of Applied Sciences Trier/Environmental Campus Birkenfeld.

As you can see, significantly more solar power is generated in summer than in winter. In December, on average, about six times less power is generated than in July. Therefore, expect to produce more electricity in summer than you can consume and to rely on additional power supply from the grid provider in winter.

We have recalculated the monthly average data for you to the daily yield amount with a PV power of 3.48 kWp and represented it in the following graphic.


 

For comparison: Average electricity consumption of German households

Single-person household: approx. 2000 kWh per year; Equivalent to 5.5 kWh per day

Two-person household: approx. 3250 kWh per year; Equivalent to 8.9 kWh per day

Three-person and larger households - Equivalent to a family with two children
approx. 5000 kWh per year = 13.7 kWh per day

Accordingly, the PV module power of 3.48 kWp can cover the electricity needs of a family household in the summer months, while in the winter months it only covers about half of the electricity needs of a single person.

Incidentally, intensive research is currently being conducted on the development of long-term energy storage systems based on fuel cells to store electricity generated in summer for use in winter. However, this technology will not be available for private households in the foreseeable future. Please note that most consumers do not heat with electricity but with fossil fuels or district heating. Conversely, most kitchen stoves are electrically heated. Using a gas stove can significantly reduce your electricity consumption.

2. Solis S5-EH1P3K-L Hybrid Inverter

The Solis S5-EH1P3K-L hybrid inverter is an ideal solution for residential installations. With a maximum input current of 15A, an uninterruptible power supply, and a backup power of 5kW, this inverter offers high efficiency and reliability. It is also compatible with lithium and lead-acid batteries and features a fanless design for long life.

Two Functions of the Hybrid Inverter

The Solis hybrid inverter performs two functions in the installation. Using the charge controller function, the battery is charged and optimized by the PV modules. The inverter function converts the generated direct current into household-standard alternating current.

Compatible with Pylontech Battery Storage

The hybrid inverter is 100% compatible with the included Pylontech US3000C battery as well as the expandable Pylontech US2000C and US5000.

A Power of 3kW is Sufficient for Most Applications

The nominal power of 3kW of the hybrid inverter refers to the conversion power and thus the power available for electrical devices. Below, we have compiled a table with reference values for the power of electrical consumers for you. 

 

Devices such as computers, lights, refrigerators, or televisions are often used continuously. These can be supplied by the inverter without any problems at the same time. It is noticeable that heating devices such as ovens, hotplates, or tumble dryers require high power. The simultaneous use of several heating devices can usually not be covered by the inverter. During these peak times, additional power supply from the grid operator is required but can be minimized by staggered use of the devices.

3. The Expandable LiFePo4 Battery Storage Pylontech US3000C 

 

Using a battery storage system is almost always worthwhile, as it allows excess electricity to be used outside of sunny times. Self-use of electricity is significantly more profitable than feeding it into the grid. A purchased kWh of electricity costs an average of 34.96 cents in 2023 and brings only 8.6 cents/kWh when fed into the grid (up to 10kWp PV power). The purchased kWh is therefore more than four times more expensive than the fed-in one. By using the battery storage, a lot of money can be saved. 

The package therefore includes the powerful Pylontech US3000C LiFePO4 Battery Storage. This powerhouse with 3.5 kWh and 48 V is based on lithium iron phosphate battery technology (LiFePo4). This is widely used due to its high usable capacity and numerous advantages, offering solutions for residential, commercial, and grid-connected storage systems.
